A free assessment of your on air performance
One of the biggest challenges after a media appearance is evaluating how you did. Your own internal biases, or that of your colleagues, will play into the perceived strengths and weaknesses of your performance. And doing just one or a small number of interviews may not justify the expense of a formal media training session.
That’s why I created The Green Room. Think of it as the place where to prepare for your next broadcast interview, but this time with an expert in the room with you. I’ll take a look at how best to get your message across and then give you the skills to do it.
A walkthrough, not a workout
Formal media training often feels highly corporate. And yes, you can ask AI to prepare a slide deck of great tips to improve your on air performance, but it won’t have what the Green Room has – a broadcast journalist with over 25 years of experience delivering news at the BBC. And it’s tailored to you.
That’s what the Green Room does – a free assessment of how your last interview went, and how to prepare for the next one. Here’s an example of the feedback I gave a to a client. Some details are redacted for confidentiality, but it will hopefully give you an idea of what to expect.
How it works
To get your free feedback, we’ll ideally need a copy of your interview in a digital format. That might be something simple as recording the TV screen or audio from the radio station’s app. If you have it in a clean video or audio form, even better. We can use on demand services like BBC Iplayer or ITV X if the programme is still available to view. Unfortinately, we cannot usually obtain original recordings from media outlets.
Once you have this, email the details to kevinstanleyjournalism@gmail.com and we’ll aim to provide your feedback within five working days, but often much sooner. We would also then like to offer a follow up call where you can simply thank us and walk away, or start a conversation of how we can help you develop your on air communications strategy even further.
