Investigative Journalism Project – getting the most out of your media

Being asked to do a multi media project can seem daunting. But you can use parts of your raw material for lots of different things, For example, a ten minute raw TV interview can make :

  • Shorter clips as part of a narrative report
  • A transcript to collect quotes for a written report
  • The basis for a one to one to include in a podcast

When gathering material of any sort, think carefully – HOW CAN I MAKE THE MOST OF THIS MATERIAL? If you’re on location, consider :

  • Getting multiple shots of the same location taken from different angles
  • Recording MORE raw footage than you will actually need (but not too much)
  • Is the lighting and background CONSISTENT with other shots you’ve taken

Studio time is valuable – so make the most of it. If you are the host or the director, think about…

  • Could I record any additional TV or sound clips that could be used throughout the project?
  • Is there an opportunity to use things like the green screen for graphics?
  • Should I record some teasers or calls to action while I have time?

When it comes to sharing and editing the material, consider the following :

  • Only have ONE master Premiere or Audition project for the main product
  • You should SHARE the PROJECT files, not the EDIT, with your team mates
  • Ensure that only ONE PERSON is editing at any one time
