I suppose I fell into journalism – but it wasn’t totally by accident. I’d always loved radio and fancied myself as a DJ. As it turned out, a BA Honours in Communication from Bournemouth University set the stage for a career in news, broadcasting and so much more :

  • A track record of producing impactful broadcast news content across TV, radio, and digital platforms.
  • An experienced trainer and mentor, committed to developing talent and improving media literacy.
  • A flair for digital design on websites and social platforms, helping to engage audiences.
  • A trusted representative and negotiator, with extensive experience in regulatory and trade union fields.

TRAINING AND MENTORING

  • Currently teaching Journalism to Btec Level 3 students (aged 16-19) in a busy inner city College
  • Designed and delivered bespoke news bulletin training courses for BBC Local Radio, enhancing editorial standards and on-air performance.
  • Served as a Mentor for the Media Trust, empowering voluntary organisations with media literacy skills to amplify their voices.
  • Led news days for Broadcast Journalism students at Nottingham Trent University, bridging academic learning with real-world newsroom practice.
  • Delivered training for the BBC Open Media project, supporting the rollout of a major newsgathering system across BBC News.

DESIGN AND CONTENT CREATION

  • Administrator and designer of multiple websites, showcasing creativity and technical expertise.
  • Founded NottsNight, a humorous and insightful blog celebrating Nottingham’s pub culture for discerning drinkers – home of the famous NottsNight map.
  • Created TravelCaster, a blog and podcast series transporting audiences to the heart of destinations through engaging multimedia storytelling.

REGULATORY AND GOVERNANCE

  • Over three decades of experience with UK broadcast regulation, including a policy draft that led to today’s Ofcom Localness Guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge of UK Employment Law and its application in the workplace
  • Skilled in co-ordinating campaigns and communication to stakeholders at all levels of an organisation
